Joel Huesby has a wide view of the world of agriculture ranging from the
practical to the visionary. On his land in Touchet, Washington (Thundering
Hooves Ranch) he produces certified organic grass-fed beef, lamb, goats,
pastured pork, chickens, and turkeys. Perhaps his most noteworthy accomplishment
has been the creation of a mobile meat processing facility. Recognizing
the need for mobility, Huesby's livestock (and that of other local ranchers
who wish to slaughter close to home) is harvested in a 53 ft. portable
abattoir that he designed and built to meet the current USDA, DOT, labor,
and environmental rules and regulations. Joel will share his experiences
on the farm raising and harvesting livestock, as well as his vision
for a locally grown, quality food production system that brings added
value to farmers.
Co-sponsored by Innovative Farmers of Ohio.

Kamyar Enshayan, a teacher and leader in progressive agricultural thought,
lived in Ohio for a number of years where he learned a great deal by
simply being an active OEFFA member. At this year's conference he will return to his roots to share insights about food energy and some key tasks before us as we strive to strengthen the local food economy in our communities. Kamyar now lives in Iowa where he coordinates University of Northern Iowa's Local Food Project. He teaches environmental studies on a part-time basis. In 2003 he was elected to the Cedar Falls City Council. He attended The Ohio State University where he received his degrees in mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering, and rabble rousing.
Although we are no longer accepting pre-registrations, we welcome walk
