Transitional Orchard Farm Tour
Saturday, August 11, 2018
The 40 acre Honey Blossom Orchard consists of 10 acres of plum, peach, and apple trees; bee hives; 1.5 acres of transitional organic vegetables, and 25 acres of transitional organic grain managed by another local farmer. The owners have raised vegetables utilizing sustainable methods since 2011 after a family member died of cancer, and they are now in their second year of transitioning the fruit orchard to organic. They are working on creating an educational environment by helping others learn organic practices, preserve organic integrity, and care for bees and livestock. Join this tour to learn about their transition to organic; discuss the mistakes, successes, and difficulties they've had in working with the local government, and to shop their on-site farm store, featuring farm-produced honey, fruit, vegetables, and bee supplies.
Directions: Honey Blossom Orchard is located adjacent to Rte. 24 that runs from Toledo to Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Take the Napoleon exit for Industrial Dr. At the top of the ramp, travel north onto Industrial Dr. and proceed to the four way stop at American Rd. Turn right and drive east on American Rd.
