Building a Vegetable Garden at Home
Cincinnati OH
Saturday, April 25, 2020
10:00am - 12:00pm
Learn how to grow fruits and vegetables in a raised wood bed with Peter Huttinger, Turner Farm Community Garden Program Director. Raised garden beds, filled with a mixture of soil and compost, are a convenient and effective way for home gardeners to grow fresh, healthy food. While there are other techniques and bed designs that can be used, these designs borrow from traditional market gardening and Permaculture practices, which will be discussed more in class.
During class, Peter will demonstrate the construction of a 4×8 foot cedar bed. Additional topics will include choosing the right lumber and soil mix for the garden bed, as well as how to build healthy, resilient soil using compost and green manure crops. An instructional handout will also be provided.
