Agricultural carbon markets and programs continue to change rapidly, with corporations increasingly using purchase of carbon credits to meet their sustainability goals. Farmers utilizing "climate-smart practices" like reduced tillage or no-till, cover crops, and nitrogen management can generate carbon credits and reap financial benefits; however, among the many agricultural carbon market programs there are significant variations in costs, risks, and benefits. It is hard to keep it all straight!

To help farmers and advisors navigate these programs, American Farmland Trust recently published the "Top 10 Things You Wanted to Know About Agricultural Carbon Markets." The guidebook helps farmers, agricultural advisors, and conservation professionals navigate the agricultural carbon markets and includes key background information on how ag carbon markets work, and questions that are top of mind for business-minded farmers.

Join this Illinois Stewardship Alliance webinar for an overview of the guidebook.
