OEFFA Heart of Ohio Chapter Meeting: Square Foot Gardening and Soil Improvement

OEFFA’s Heart of Ohio Chapter presents a free public discussion and information session on urban gardening and improving both rural and urban soils.

The discussion will provide information on planning an urban garden using the “Square Foot Gardening” method and improving the soil through amendments, soil tests, cover crops, increasing microbes, and proper tillage/use of rototiller. Ample time will be allowed for questions and answers.

The discussion and information session will be conducted by Cassie Holderman D'Aula – trained practitioner in Square Foot Gardening and Mike Laughlin owner/farmer of Northridge Organic Farm in Alexandria, Ohio.

The meeting will start with a short business meeting during which attendees will be able to place orders for seeds, onions, garlic, potatoes, and soil amendments (directions below). After the business meeting the presentation/discussion of the evening’s topic – Square Foot Gardening and Soil Improvement will take place. Light refreshments will be served.

This discussion/information meeting is part of the OEFFA's Heart of Ohio Chapter’s regular meeting schedule which will include pertinent topics for both the rural and urban farmer. For more information about this meeting or future chapter meetings please contact Chuck Dilbone.

Ordering Information

Seed Order Information

Seeds will be ordered from Fedco. If you do not have a Fedco catalog you can down load an order form and complete your order.
• Orders should be completed on the Fedco seed order form and subtotaled
• Order seed items from 1 – 5999
• Checks should be made out to Patricia Y. Mumme (keep a photo copy of order and check)
• Seeds will be distributed on Saturday, February 16 at the OEFFA Conference registration desk in Granville (you do not have to attend the conference to receive your seeds)

Soil Amendment Order Information

Soil amendments will be ordered from Ohio Earth Food. You can obtain an order form by visiting ohioearthfood.com and clicking the “Download Catalog” button. The order form is found on the last page of the catalog.
• Order forms should be completed on the Ohio Earth Food order form and subtotaled
• Discounts apply to items such as Re Vita, green sand, and rock phosphate that come in 50 lb. bags.
• Checks should be made out to Joan Richmond (keep a photo copy of order and check)
• Order delivery and pick-up will be communicated after we obtain the orders and determine the logistics of the order.

Potatoes, Onions, Garlic Order Information

Potatoes, onions, and garlic will be ordered from Potato Garden. You can obtain an order from by visiting potatogarden.com and click on “Store” then click on “#2 all products.” There is not an order form so interested attendees should bring an order list that includes, item name, item #, and amount.
• Orders should include item name, item number, and amount.
