Turner Farm's Veteran to Farmer Training Program is designed to provide the training and resources necessary to help military veterans transition into successful careers in agriculture. This paid, full-time training evolution lasts two years and takes place at Turner Farm and the farmís VFTP incubator garden. The program is designed to: train veterans in the basic skills of farming, including organic farming; assist veterans with business and market planning; connect veterans with members of the local food community; and help veterans find land and access to capital to start their own business. Turner Farm offers an impressive diversity of educational opportunities, including: crop and livestock management; soil and pest management; machinery and infrastructure maintenance; and produce sales and marketing. First-year VFTP trainees will complete a season of hands-on work and classroom education with the Turner Farm crop production staff and apprentices. Second-year trainees will be responsible for running their own small business at the VFTP incubator garden. This includes crop planning, marketing, and sales.
